Description

Nick Kirk (West End New Act Finalist 2023) presents his first solo show featuring one man, no hair and a cast of supporting characters unpicking what life is like when you're hitting those awkward middle (age) years. '[The character of safety officer Dave Steed is] an amusing tragi-comic conceit and expertly performed with fine timing' (Chortle.co.uk); 'Stupendous stand-up... Nick Kirk has some fabulous material' (TheatreScotland.co.uk).

My friends and I absolutely loved Nick - fantastic solo sketch character work, really funny, hopefully will see him again in the future! It was hard to pick a favourite but I've thought about 'The Spear' at least once an hour ever since seeing the show.

This was one of my favourite shows of this year’s fringe.
Nick Kirk introduces us to a troupe of oddball characters. Some of them might be more cruelly labelled as ‘losers’ but each seem to emanate a strange, slightly warped, aura of heroism. Regardless I found them all immediately engaging, even endearing.
A clever device allows the show to flow smoothly as the characters come and go and ultimately leads us to a surprising, candid, and very.funny, encounter with the performer himself.
Seriously impressive work for a debut solo show. Well done Nick.

This kind of show is exactly what the festival has always been about. Those little gems, in unassuming venues (in this case, a basement bar opposite the grand Assembly Rooms) that leave you hoping you get the chance to see more in the future.
Very funny character show with unexpected touches of genuine vulnerability and warmth.
Do yourself a favour - step away from the Old Town for an hour and see what this absolute Nickhead has to offer.

I really enjoyed this show - a great mix of characters, with real depth behind them. In particular the character of Dave Steed will resonate with anyone who’s sat through a workplace health and safety briefing. Great fun; go and see it
