Description
Knockout opera-singing stand-up comedian Steph DePrez is back with a new show about dreams, risks and how exactly Americans learn to be so… loud. Steph weaves stories about confidence and failure in between opera arias, gospel hymns and jazz standards 'performed with the gravitas afforded by possessing a diaphragm like a blacksmith’s bellows' (TheWeeReview.com). Audience reviews: 'Well worth a trip off the beaten track'. 'Hilarious chats, heavenly singing. A real hidden gem'. 'Never thought of combining stand-up comedy with opera, but Steph does it beautifully! A ton of laughs'.Please note that while all media gallery content is provided by verified members of the event, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society does not review or approve this content before it is posted. An excellent show, full of all of the feels.
Steph is very warm as a presenter, she is LOUD in all of the best ways and is a gifted storyteller. This show is a story about learning how to give yourself permission to take up space and be you. Regardless if you call yourself artsy or not (as she tells her story from the perspective of a performer), her message is for all. Thanks to her mama who was a big inspiration and giving her kiddo permission to be loud, this message is now passed to the rest of us to benefit. You will laugh and hold back tears (or not, you do you boo!) all within the hour with the bonus of music. Please go see her show.

Go see this show!! It looks like it’s far away but you can easily walk. Incredibly talented singer and human being. Such an amazing story of someone who really seizes every day. I’ve been to scores of Fringe shows but I will remember this one and the uplifting message it delivers - celebrate life! Thank you. ❤️

This was our very first show at our very first Fringe visit and we were not disappointed. Steph is an amazing singer and a very good story teller. She set the bar high for the rest of the festival and we will look out for her in future years!

This was great. It was very funny and at times moving and I enjoyed the singing and the whole show. (Tip: when at one point she asks the audience which of two songs to sing, go for "o mio babbino caro" - and then ask for the second one as an encore.)

Fabulous from start to finish ! Definitely worth seeing. Steph is funny and a very talented singer (it’s not all Opera). Although her story is very moving, which I did not see coming, you still feel uplifted when you leave and ready to face the world and be loud!!!!

First time on the fringe festival and I was so lucky to have seen this! Steph warmly welcomed everyone, it made me feel at ease. I am in awe of her talent, she combines opera with comedy and storytelling. Tears rolled down my cheeks as I laughed so hard (sorting trash has never been so funny!) and because I was so moved by the beauty of her story. Her voice moved me to tears as well, crystal clear opera in a basement of a bar!
Honestly, a refined and funny comedian. A refreshing point of view. A pearl amongst all these other shows. Highly recommend!

I walked what seemed out of town, then said I would have to leave early to catch another show, but I didn't as it was all worth it.
A very warm and moving show. Please get a central venue next year and with more songs you will fill the seats.

Heartfelt Stand-Up Comedy
In a deeply personal and poignant show, Stephanie Du Prez delivers an emotional comedy performance that will make you both laugh and cry.
Her candid storytelling adds layers of depth to the experience, making each joke and song resonate even more. Plus, her marvelous singing adds an extra layer of charm to the experience.
I highly recommended seeing this heart-string tugger of a show.

Steph DePrez was fabulous. I really enjoyed her telling of the story of her life and how circumstances led her to become an opera singer. As a lover of opera I loved the way she wove arias and songs, sung beautifully by her, into her story. The theme of accepting who you are and loving the qualities of yourself that may have come under criticism when others tried to make you feel embarrassed when you revealed your true self was expressed perfectly in this performance.

This show has it all! You will be awed by the singing while simultaneously laughing at the comedy. Steph’s show is witty, impressive, and so relatable. A must see for all!
